The Moomba Festival bumps in to Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens next Monday and bike trails through the area will be closed or restricted until mid March.
Due to the size of the event various parts of Alexandra Gardens and Birrarung Marr will be closed off to public access.
Fencing off the worksite means that the City of Melbourne, as owner of this event, complies with OH&S laws and Worksafe site regulations.
From the 27 February to 1 March there will be manned closures of some sections of the park whilst works are being undertaken. This will impact users of the park, in particular cyclists. Where possible, contractors will attempt to operate between 9am and 4pm to help minimise the disruption.
The event itself will run from Friday 9 March until Monday 12 March
The entire Lower Terrace of Birrarung Marr will be fenced off from Thursday the 1st of March until 11.59pm on Thursday the 8th of March to allow staff to build the site.
The fenced off area will be reinstated from Tuesday the 13th of March to Thursday the 15th of March for the demobilisation of the site. During these periods, it is recommended that cyclists by-pass Birrarung Marr and use an alternative route to and from the CBD.
Bump-out activities to be completed by Friday 16 March.
