Once over Waverley Rd there are two ways past the railway line: a crossing at the north end of Collins St, from which it is usually easy to get down to the path except there was a construction site in the way last time I tried (a while ago); or via Margot - Batesford - Power - Winbirra, which I would follow all the way to the Gardiners Creek crossing point on High St Rd. Not sure what Winbirra Pde is like to ride in busy traffic but Power Ave is OK.
Waverley Rd can be frustrating to cross in heavy traffic, in which case an alternative is to take the path on the north side of the freeway between Atkinson St and Kierens Way, from where there is a pedestrian crossing to Power Ave (this adds about 1 km).
Or another somewhat slower alternative is to take the Scotchmans Creek trail to its Waverley Rd crossing, then follow the Waverley Rail Trail (via Golfers Dr and Argyll St) back over Warrigal Rd to opposite the top end of Collins St. Adds about 1.5 km vs the most direct route.
Thanks for that, I went out for a bit of an explore yesterday afternoon and by chance seem to have used parts of that while I was coming home -- literally had no idea where I was and with the overcast, wasn't entirely sure which direction was north so I just wound around in the sidestreets and headed generally homewards. Got a loud blasting 'o the horn somewhere in Power Ave for being so rude as to ride a bicycle on a public road, but otherwise it was a very enjoyable ride finding the new bits of the Gardiner crk trail through that park.
