What about the fire risk next summer? It’s not like DSE do regular control burns around North Fitzroy.

Apparently this is around Linear Park between Nicholson street and Lygon street.
Cyclists are requested to ride on the adjourning Park street (10 - 20 mtrs away) which has onroad bike lanes.
Positively the crossing of Amess street will be shifted a few mtrs north so cars flying around the corner from park street will have a better chance as will cyclists of seeing eachother.
I would assume the Nicholson and Lygon shared path traffic lights will still be operational.

I live close-by and use the bike path myself regularly (albeit not as a commute) with no difficulty in sharing with pedestrians. Admittedly it can't be used as a speed ride (which I would argue bike paths are not intended for anyway) but for those who want some speed, Park Rd has marked on-road bike lane that can be used. From the map, the only part of of the proposal I would upgrade would be the Amess St section going onto Brunswick Rd, which for cars and cyclists alike, it is not much fun. I'm all for upgrades to the cycling network but in this case, would scarce resources not be better employed in areas of more immediate urgency; or I am simply unaware of the problems along this route and maybe someone can enlighten me?

The new section doesn't have the miriad of repairs the old section does (almost lost my falsies a few times) compared to the much wider, smoother new section.
It also gets congested Friday nights @ the end of Rathdowne street when the Beatbox Kitchen is operating. Heaps of people queue onto the shared path when this caravan is operating.
