I almost caused a similar accident years ago in Oakliegh when I opened the door suddenly on a main road. The lady on her bike yelled and growled at me as she rode past but I shouted back "soorrryyy" and she waived back like as if it's ok. It taught me a lesson in respect really and I always look through the rear view windows now before I open the door. Luckily a lot of cars these days have parrabolic mirros to give a wider view of the surroundings.
