Motorists have been dealt a rough deal with current traffic management measures. I can’t see how they put up with it?
My most direct route has 11 traffic lights in 8km, my scenic routes of 14, 15 or 21kms have 7 or 8 traffic lights.
the direct route of 10 km that i choose not to take must have more traffic lights than i have fingers and toes. the circuitous route of 17 km that i enjoy daily has only one. and it's nice on those days when i get green there- no stops at all.
(except for right now- the myt closure means i have another traffic light in balmain road, dammit. that's ron's favourite light)
I just added the lights on my 37km commute to the city, until Flinders St I now have to pass 3 sets of lights, was 2 before that closure. after and including Flinders St in the 500 or so metres I travel in the city I have 5 . If I take the 18km direct route there's about 37.
your description makes sense of your route as seen on strava, which otherwise looks like the noodlings of a drunk jackson pollock. (sorry, that was a tautology just then, wasn't it?)
hmm...20 extra kilometres than me each leg of your commute. no wonder you are such a stronger rider.
I noticed this morning on my way in that one set of lights I go through near The Austin Hospital is actually two sets so that means I have to pass 4 sets of lights to reach the city.
Coming home I pass through an extra four sets but thats just to avoid a short 18% climb that I should start doing again.
And on todays commute I got straight through the lights on Balmain BOTH times. On the way in as I rolled up to the lights they turned green so just had to wait for one car to left turn and tonight as I hit the speed hump before the lights they turned green bit of a sprint and I was across Church St before the red. WOO HOO
It's a bit disappointing though when you push reasonably hard all the way home load up your commute to strava and bugger all trophies.
I do love leaving the city late though, tonight was one of the rare nights where I didn't see another soul on The Boulevard.
I was also threatened by a duck just after the Guide Dogs on the trail, maybe he remembered me from last Friday night when him and the misses where in the middle of the path at 8:20pm and I almost ran them over.
