do other's do this? as I'm getting bike ready each morning the first thing I do is check the tyres, do it without thinking, bit obssesive. then I notice a huge build up of gunk on rear cassette - grass and compressed lube, that's got to go, so spend 10 minutes fishing it all out.

That was pretty much the police response as well - if there is a pattern then there's more opportunity to dig deeper...as a one-off, there's not much possible because he will say that it was all my fault etc.
