Tuesdays commute did not end well for me. I rode from South Yarra to Box Hill station via GCT, Swan St, Power St, Burwood Rd and Mont Albert Rd without incident there I boarded the train for Upwey.
Once I alighted at Upwey I rode up Main St and turned left into Morris Rd as I always do. Once I crested the hill I was coasting down the towards my turn off, when as I was passing Thompson St I was struck by a car that hadn't seen me. I remember none of this.
Next thing I know I awoke I the Alfred with my wife by my side. Apparently I'd managed to call her despite my injuries.
Anyway I was operated on today and had a broken finger pinned, a broken arm plated and set and a knee stitched up. I have numerous other cuts and scrapes, but they're the main ones.
I had my lights on (I had newer, more powerful ones in the post that day!) and was wearing my helmet (of which I'll require a replacement). As vigilant as you may be and the numerous stories you hear, you never think it will happen to you.
I have no recollection of the accident nor of that afternoon pretty much. That's probably a good thing.
I'm on the mend now, but a whole bunch of my life has just been turned upside down. Take care out there.
