Commute itself was great. What wasn't so great were the tacks that some delightful individual had left on the shared path on Whitehall St Footscray. Thankfully, I escaped a puncture - but others weren't so lucky. Spent a good 5 - 10 minutes picking them up (many thanks to the two guys who stopped to help). Final count - 73, excluding what others had aready picked up in their tyres. Sheesh - some people
Whereabouts on Whitehall St were the tacks?
Actually, it was after the bend - so it was Moreland St. As you approach Parker St (heading towards Footscray Rd) there's a corridor section with an old red brick building on the left and the cotton mill on the right. On google maps it comes up as 93 Moreland St.
The tacks were thrown across both lanes through the corridor so, even if you were lucky enough to see them, you wouldn't be able to avoid them. As I said, I think we picked most of them and I've also rung Maribyrnong council who are sending out their rapid response team to sweep the area. Doesn't help the people with punctures though - spoke to one woman who had six tacks in one tyre and two in the other.
That is the second time in six months, I know of, that someone has thrown tacks in that location.
Likely, I missed them this morning. I wasn't so lucky the first time; Both tyres flat.
I would guess that someone has got issues.
