I actually got there pretty early too...waited until 7:10am and then bolted. Just as I got going, the rain started so I pushed hard all the way to Carlisle Street getting there at 7:20am.
Then I thought...hey, my daughter is catching a train from Caulfield Station to go off on school camp for the week at 8am...so I hung a right and sprinted off towards Caulfield Station. Man there are a lot of tram tracks out that way!!! And it was drizzling, so carefully carefully over the tracks - I think the car drivers got confused with what I was doing as I was changing direction and wobbling around to cross all the tracks on the corner of Balaclava Rd and Hawthorn Rd - so many tracks - so many directions - super dangerous. Got cut off with some impatient cars, but no mind...got there by 7:30am. Caught up with my daughter - she was so happy to see me...I was also scoring some major scopage from the school mums checking out the lycra
Anyway, back on the road...sprinting along with the cars up Dandenong Road and keeping up easily...then what's with the Cyclists Exit halfway to Malvern?? I was half-tempted to keep going with the cars as I wasn't holding anyone up...but thought that maybe it was a mandatory sign (??) so I veered left and followed the road up the left side of the train line - it's more dangerous in my book, would have been much safer staying on Dandenong Road.
Veered left onto Alma Road...lots of cyclists on Alma Road. Followed all the way back to the top and then in along St Kilda Road. All in all not a bad detour...but the bike cage was full to the gills this morning...what a difference 30 minutes makes.
