Cycling News Press Release 18 October.
In a major disappointment for the ATB event, Titus Dario has withdrawn from this years event. In what was shaping up to be a much anticipated show down between the Arizona crew and Team FlexorCranks, the Ariozonan's withdrawal has not ruffled the BV organisers. BV Spokeperson Laney Copenhagen is still expecting 20,000 riders for the pre-eminent cycling event on the Victorian calendar. "We cater for all riders, not just the elite internationals, so while we are all disappointed, we expected a great showing this year. We just remind riders to watch for the glass and thumb tacks. And the big mystery is whether we will see the pink 4-way with the boom box. There is still plenty in this event."
The other major team still in the running, Team FlexorCranks, sized up the withdrawal. Sven Bowersen, Director Sportif: "We were looking forward to the Arizonans coming down this year, as we love to show them our hospitality and our shiny rear cassettes. Titus Dario can talk the talk; we just don't know what else he can do. But Team FlexorCranks had a strong showing in the Jayco Sun Tour, particularly in the mountains on Wednesday, so we expect the ATB to be a formality now. We have had some tremendous struggles in the team this year, but hopefully all the infighting has been sorted out, and tomorrow will be the team's time in the sun, after the morning drizzle. Time for my jacuzzi, excuse me."
