Everyone knows that headwinds & inclines are the stuff of cycling.
If you want to avoid dealing with these, then you can always get back into a car or bus, but that's no fun is it?
That [i]painted line thing [/i]I mentioned earlier was more a sly dig that there aren't any perminant bike lanes along the route of the 'Bay ride, even though it's touted as a worthwhile cycle ride.
One reason why many only do it once a year is that at all other times much of the route is outa bounds (or pretty dangerous) on a bicycle (not including the Westgate as Footscray Rd has one).
It would be wonderful if Vic Roads when running a new layer of bitumen on the road between Geelong/ Melb or Queenscliff, if they can make it that extra metre wider & paint a white line along the side.
Look at the wonderful influence the Tour De France has had on the French countryside & their B-roads.
