Well unlike you athletes I ain't neither that fit, nor seasoned (though I do have salt & pepper look about me).
So today, after a few days of lousy weather I was hopeful of a 'training ride' from north franga to Citie and back, but I found the head winds up to mordialloc too much. No amount of swearing (in 4 different languages) made it any easier. And according to weatherzone it was only an 18 km/hr headwind. Not like the 20 to 27 km/hr expected westerlies of Sundy coming. Though admittedly these will have to be vectorially resolved to their South West components. So prolly average out to be about 15 to 20 km/hr head winds.
Thing is despite gear drop downs (to maintain the higher cadence) my speed dropped as low as 15 km/hr. Yeah, so I quit at Mordi and turned back. Then flew back at speeds of nearly 40 km/hr with the tailwind. Now that was nice
Goal will be to make it into Geelong by about 10 am (that should give me 2 hrs to catch second last ferry. Don't wanna leave it to the last one). Man, there must be some pollen out there. I'm sneezing like hell. So what is it, 80 kms to Geelong outskirts. 80 divvy by 15 km/hr is 5.33 hrs . 6am + 5.33 = 11.33 hrs. So must leave before 5 am! Double check. 4 am + 5.33 hrs = 9:33 am.
After Geelong, if the forecast holds up, it's pretty much tailwind all the way back to Alexandra Gardens.

So you'sers reckon I should try riding into town (& back) on Friday? For the training and practice? Weather will be fouler than Sunday. 27 to 33 km/hr WSW'ies with 10 to 20mm's of that wet stuff too. Dunno how they measure them when they're falling down so fast! Must be quick with the rulers them meteorologists!
Or should I just drive in to complete the ticket transfer? I am thinking ironbum it, and rest up Saturday, but I copped out today, which comparatively is a much easier day than Fridays forecast.
Near miss incident. On my way out, had someone from oncoming traffic roll into a slip turning lane, slow down, appeared to wait for me to pass as I was crossing his/her path, but just as I was about to they stepped on the accelerator and of course I thought I was gonna get run over so I ended up all over the gutter. Apparently, they decided at last minute to drive on the wrong side of the road to get into a right turning lane which starts up further ahead for them, but after about a km I was still shaken by the ordeal.
