So do I. Its usually way in the red.. If I was an aircraft there would be lots of red lights flashing..alarms going off and voices saying "eject, eject, eject'
Without planning anything, if I want to get into some pack riding, I usually just head to Beach Rd on a weekend morning. There always seems to be soooo many riders there, there is usually a pack going past just a little faster than you that you can jump on. Some groups don't like people who hop on uninvited, but on the whole, most groups think the more the merrier.
And, the beauty of Beach Rd, is that there aren't many hills. You actually can get a few long stretchs of staying in a pack whose speed is quite constant.
Well I could search through all the regular Plan A Ride titles to see whether there are any slow enough for me, regardless of suburb (have been told that the MRR/RRR are not by any means beginner rides even by forum standards, and that there would be plenty of forum riders slower than me whom I've never met).... so that's an option I've been keeping in mind..... had a couple of times of riding alone on Beach Rd last year and plan to get back to that hopefully soon. Someone else has suggested to me some slow groups not on the forum that sometimes do Beach Rd rides.
To give an idea of my pace (although not over a long distance): for yesterday's BBC ride (Prahran to Black Rock return: 32 or 33 km all up), my average pace (until the big hill of Barkly St at the end) was 28.8 kph (riding on someone's wheel most of the way). I could have kept up the same pace for longer (but don't know how much longer, and have only just started to get back to longer rides, as of last weekend
).... on the other hand the pace of yesterday's ride that felt tough to me shows that if I were with a group riding at over 30 kph I probably wouldn't last long at this stage (although I could always try it and see how long I could stay on, with a prior agreement that the group doesn't have to wait for me
