Did you have to recharge? I had a 305 & a 500 (just bought, so I thought I kept the 305, just in case (unrecorded kms never happened)), and the 305 ran out of juice half way up Falls. I had put a charger on the 305 at lunch, but only for about 30 minutes. We had stopped for around 90, so had I charged it the whole time there, it should've made it.
The Edge 500 made it to the end, with plenty to spare, no recharge required.

If the current software didn't crash on random presses of the "Lap" button, then I'd actually recommend it. As it stands Garmin have some important bug fixing to do.
