TRAINING ZONE

Our training rides, workshops and skills sessions cater to women of all ages and abilities. This is your chance to brush up on your skills, meet some friendly faces, get some kms into your legs and most importantly - have fun.

All session are FREE but RSVP is essential. 

These sessions have been separated into three key levels of skill and ability: 

Beginner

For riders that are looking at participating in the 25km or 50km Around the Bay ride options. Able to ride at a relaxed pace on a bike path. Has the basic skills of being able to ride in a straight line, brake, balance and corner.

Intermediate

For riders that are looking at participating in the 100km or 160km Around the Bay ride options. Has the skills to ride two abreast in a bunch and can hold a pace of of low-to-mid 20s. Is capable of riding on the road in traffic and has some good level bike skills.

Inter/Advanced

For riders that are looking at participating in the 160km, 210km or 250km Around the Bay ride options. Has a good base fitness and knowledge of road etiquette and hand signalling, is able to ride in a bunch and roll turns at a pace of 30km/h+. Is comfortable riding on the road with traffic.

All Levels:

Open to all levels of riders, regardless of what stage you're at with your riding journey.

Breeze training ride
Every Tuesday for the month of June

Time: 6am
Location: Kew Boulevard,
Meeting spot: Corner of Walmer Street and the Boulevard
Ride Leaders: Alison Raaymakers and Lisa Byrne 
Duration: 1-1.5 hour ride
Level: Intermediate

Ella Cycling Tips training ride
Every Tuesday for the month of June

Time: 6:00am
Location: Kew Boulevard and surrounds
Meeting spot: Near the corner of Walmer and Victoria St, Abbotsford, toward the Walmer St bridge over the Yarra
Ride Leaders: Ella Cycling Tips ambassadors
Distance: One hour ride with plenty of climbing
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Extra notes:
* If weather conditions result in ride cancellation a post will be put out on the Ella CyclingTips Instagram account on Monday night
* This is not a coaching ride or skills session, but is a friendly group to go and roll at a solid pace with in order to add some extra hilly kilometers to your weekly total. It tackles the Yarra Boulevard and some extra surrounding steep pinches.

SKCC Training ride
Every Tuesday for the month of June
Time: 6:00am
Location: Beach Road, St Kilda
Meeting spot: Soul Kitchen,  Marine Parade, St Kilda

Distance: 28km
Pace: 25km/h to 28km/h
Level: Beginner

Distance: 28km
Pace: 32-35km/h
Level: Inter/Advanced

* Any rider joining must be competent in a bunch and have basic maintenance/ tube changing skills as it is not a no-drop ride

Mechanics night - Session 1

Description: We are committed to skilling you up so you have the confidence to carry out the basic mechanics on your bike. Together with the awesome team at Trek Carnegie we will be rolling out three sessions for you to get involved in, we will even provide drinks and canapes too! Join other like minded women in a relaxed, friendly and welcome environment, with the first session focusing around:

  • What to carry with you when you are out on your bike
  • Puncture repair
  • Adjusting gear & brake cables (full practice)
  • Cleaning your chain and lubrication
  • How to put reassemble your bike after traveling

Wheel Women training ride - Lets Get Moving Ride

Meeting spot: Docklands - To meet at the cnr Newquay Promenade and Pearl River Rd
Ride Leader: Wheel Women Coaches
Distance: 30km 
Description: A flat route for those new to riding or those wanting a cruisey spin. Distance of 30km return to Williamstown return and suitable for those trying to build confidence riding with groups. Will be path and road, but for those less confident there will be a path only group.

WWOW training ride
Saturday 24th June 2017

Time: 9:30am
Meeting spot: Finns Reserve, Templestowe, Melw. 33 A 4 / Finn's reserve is located in Lower Templestowe. Coming up North on Thompsons Rd., cross the intersection with Foote St./Templestowe Rd.  (nos. 42/52) and keep driving straight North onto Union St. Look to your left for a sign to Finn's Reserve or for Duncan St. which leads to the car park
Location: The aim is to encourage females to get out on their bikes, in a relaxed and non- competitive atmosphere. The rides will cover a distance of approximately 30 kilometers or more, returning to the starting place. There will be a mid-morning stop for coffee, that will provide an opportunity to get to know the other riders in the group

Description: If you feel a little intimidated by all the clicks and clacks as other riders click into cleats, don’t worry. We’ll demystify the whole topic of cleats, pedals and shoes and explain the different options available, and explain how you can swap to riding with cleats without fear.
