Lilydale bike theft spree

Twenty-nine bikes have been stolen from Lilydale during the holiday period.

Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives believe offenders cut a hole in the fence at a school on Anderson Street, Lilydale and have been stealing bikes over a one month period since December 18.

A total of 25 new Avanti Black Thunder mountain bikes were stolen, along with four second-hand bikes.

It’s believed the offenders have been fleeing via the Warburton trail.

Any riders on the trail or elsewhere who may have noticed these bikes is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Good Samaritans sought

An elderly Northcote man is searching for some bike angels who helped him after a nasty fall that knocked him unconscious.

Dean Fox was walking but fell and hit his head after experiencing a dizzy spell. He was helped by two bike riders who assisted him until an ambulance arrived.

Mr Fox does not know who the riders are however and would like to find them to say thank you.

If you know who may have helped Mr Fox – or indeed were a helper – please contact the Preston Leader on 9495 9534 or at preston@leadernewspapers.com.au.
