Bicycle Network: Volunteers
Healthy hearty office support
Veronica Nunez is a keen bike rider and currently in her final year at Deakin University. She is studying Health Science and majoring in health promotion and families, society and health. Veronica lent us a hand in the office by making phone-calls to schools, with confidence and enthusiasm!
Why are you keen to volunteer with Ride2School?
I decided to volunteer with Ride2School because I think it's a great program, as well as being very health promoting!
What are your experiences with Bicycle Network?
In the past I took part in the RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride several times during high school - which I loved. I also heard stories that my dad told me from his volunteering in the past with Bicycle Victoria.
What do you like about volunteering?
I enjoy the new encounters that volunteering brings about, it's a unique experience where you can be a facilitator in creating awareness and change in children and schools.
What do you wish to achieve from volunteering?
I hope to gain further skills whether it be communicating with different sectors or to pass on my knowledge to promote health and wellbeing. I would love to eventually do some further work for Bicycle Network in the future.
What are your hobbies/interests?
My interests involve health, the environment, cycling, travelling and spending time with friends and family.
Your first time on a bike?
My first cycling memory I can recall is when I got my first bike at three years of age, it was pink and I remember riding it around the house, as well as many weekend trail rides with my dad.
Your best cycling memory?
My favourite cycling experience would have to be doing the RACV Great Victorian Bike Rides (reaching the top of steep hills) and riding overseas in Vietnam.
Thanks Veronica!
