On the ground snippets from our volunteers

“One of them came up at the end of today’s session and surprised me with a big thank you cuddle”

On Malvern Valley Primary

“I finished at Malvern Valley PS today – the kids did a 6km + road ride and were very surprised when I told them how far they’d ridden.   None of them were tired and all felt they could ride further so I suggested they get the maps out and see how far from home they can ride – hopefully they’ll clock up some kilometers over the holidays.

We had two non riders at the start of the program. Both took quite a bit of coaxing and encouragement.   Its a bit like watching a young child take their first steps, both of them were very anxious about riding and at the start would say 'but I cant ride' to which I would respond 'YET'.   One of them came up at the end of today’s session and surprised me with a big thank you cuddle.   I asked her in the future what she had to say to herself if there was something that she couldn’t do and she responded 'yet'.   Believing you are capable is the first lesson.”

Advocacy in action

"I’m meeting with Stonnington City Council to look at the 'missing link' from the Scotchman’s Creek Shared Path and Malvern Valley Primary School and Phoenix Park Children’s Hub, plus a couple of other infrastructure improvements for walking and cycling.  Fingers crossed."
