Ride2School in four simple steps

Once a school has joined the Ride2School program, there are four simple steps to creating a walking, wheeling culture at your school.

HandsUp!

HandsUp! is an active travel survey that is completed by registered schools once per month. Schools can choose any day in the month to ask students to put their hand up if they walked, rode, skated, scootered, caught public transport or were driven to school on that day.

Once results are collected, they are entered via each school's individual portal on the Ride2School website where you can view graphs to track your schools progress.

Bike Ed

Bike Ed is a bicycle skills and road safety education program run by teachers who have trained as instructors. Incorporating Bike Education into your school's curriculum will give the school community peace of mind that students can be competent and  confident on their ride to school.

Need extra hands? Ride2School has a database of volunteers for schools in Victoria who would be more than happy to offer the assistance you need.

Part Way is OK

Many students live some distance from school. Part Way is OK is a proven strategy employed by many schools to effectively make sure all students have the opportunity to enjoy walking and riding. It also has the added benefit of reducing congestion around the school gates.

Identify drop-off points where the school community can meet, and walk or ride from there. We have a resource kit to get you started.

Walking Wheeling Wednesdays

Make every Wednesday a Walking Wheeling Wednesday! The aim of nominating one day of the week as a day of active travel is to create longer-term, habitual changes in active travel frequency.

You can make each Walking Wheeling Wednesday as big or small as you like. It is a great way to keep the momentum going throughout the year and establish an active travel culture.
