Star Reward & Barrier Busters
The Ride2School Star Rewards is an exciting feature of the Ride2School Program which rewards schools committed to getting more students active on the way to school.
About Star Rewards & Barrier Busters
The Star Rewards & Barrier Buster Program seeks to reinforce positive active travel behaviour and remove
the barriers to more active travel through rewards and specific interventions.
Star Rewards recognises schools achieving milestones and great results on the active travel front as reported in monthly Hands Up! surveys, with a variety of positive benefits including new school bikes, helmets, parking, outings, equipment, training and whole-of-school celebrations.
Barrier Busters are targeted interventions desigend to break down the barriers to active travel in a specific school community.
Often this takes the form of installing new secure parking so that students have somewhere safe and secure to leave their bikes, but barrier busters could also include bike education training for teachers and skills training for students to help improve comfort with the riding environment.
Every month schools across Victoria are selected and rewarded for their ongoing commitment to the Ride2School Program and to increasing walking and riding numbers in their school community.
So, as well as rewarding achievement where possible, rewards also assist schools in addressing barriers to more students walking and riding.
To be eligible for the Star Rewards & Barrier Buster program schools must be registered in the Ride2School Program and regularly enter Hands Up! survey results. To find out more about the Star Rewards contact the Ride2School team on 8376 8888 or email ride2school@bicyclenetwork.com.au
