Bicycle Tasmania Family Bike Group

Do you have children? Are you a family looking for somewhere to ride and other families to ride with? If so, the Bicycle Tasmania Family Bike Group is just for you!

One or two rides are organised most months throughout the year. These range from jaunts along car free bicycle tracks such as Hobart's Intercity Cycleway or the Pipeline Track, to quiet roads in the country. A highlight is the touring weekend to Bruny Island in December, introducing many children to the delights of bicycle touring in a low key way. Ride distances vary from 20-35 kilometres. There are rides suitable for all ages of children from babies and toddlers in trailers to young children on trailer bikes or tandems and older children on their own bikes.

Rides are at a relaxed pace with an emphasis on children having fun on the bikes and when stopped. Cricket bats, soccer balls and frisbees are normal accompaniments on these rides, while ice creams and hot chips have even been known to pass the lips of children (and occasionally their accompanying parents).

If you'd like to get on the family bike rides email list and come and explore Tasmania with other families, email Ian Terry at ianterry@netspace.net.au.
