From Adelaide to Darwin in the name of cancer research
The riders and crew are taking on this 3,320km challenge in their quest to raise $100,000 for prostate and breast cancer research.
Bite to Dust 09
Eight riders, including Bicycle Network Victoria members Brian Shambrook and Michael Sweeney, and a support crew will be making the month-long journey by bike to raise money for prostate and breast cancer research.
This ride, which has been three years in the pipeline, starts from Adelaide on Friday 1 May. The riders will be passing through Coober Pedy, Uluru, Alice Springs, Katherine Gorge...all before finishing up at the Adelaide River in Darwin, covering a whopping 3,320km over the 31 days. To put it into perspective, the Tour de France is 3,500km over 23 days...for professionals!
Brian and Michael are taking up the challenge in preparation for Around the Bay 2009. They have taken part in over twenty Around the Bays between them - though they suspect that this will be a slightly different challenge!
Check out how they are travelling on the Bite to Dust 09 website. We wish them all the best on this mammoth ride and look forward to hearing all about it when they get back!
