The Cycle of Love
Derek Miglietti recently got married and cycling was a major part of getting together with his wife
At the beginning of 2007 after a long sabbatical I dusted down my 15 year old road bike to pursue my love of cycling once again. I expressed my interest in partaking in the Great Vic Bike Ride in 2008 to a female friend who is an experienced cyclist, yet with her encouragement we began training for the 2007 ride.
As our time together increased so did our relationship. During one particle hill training session through the Dandenongs we came across a beautiful reception centre with immaculate gardens and stopped to have a look. We jokingly said that if we were to ever get married we should have it there.
After six months of training we cycled the Around the Bay in a Day and the Great Victorian Bike Ride together. Several months later we were engaged and yes, we did get married in the Dandenongs at the venue we first feel in love with during our hill training. Our marriage celebrant is also a keen cyclist and rode on the 2007 Great Victorian Bike Ride, unbeknown to us at the time.
My wife and I continue to cycle together as well as catching up with our celebrant for rides. Our love of cycling continues!
