Bicycle Network: Great Escapade
Day 1 - Launceston to Scottsdale
You’ve enjoyed the fabulous food at the Launceston Festivale on Friday night and you’re full of steam as you head east out of Launceston. Green paddocks, lush farmland and rolling hills await you as you take on the climbs, enjoy the scenery and take in the fresh country air before arriving in Scottsdale.
As you ride into the countryside you may notice some indecision - that is because you will be in the federal electorate of Bass. Now if you are a keen viewer on election night you will know that Bass is one of those seats that is always studied intently to try and determine the next government. The seat of Bass swings consistently between parties, so please be on the look out for desperate politicians.
Today you will have the opportunity to vist the famous Bridestowe Lavendar Farm, which has always been a favourite amongst our riders. The stunning scenery you see on today's ride sets the standard for what you will witness every day as you weave your way across Tasmania's east coast.
Savour every metre - Scottsdale at 65,980 metres from Launceston
Tonight's stop is Scottsdale, once described as having the "best soil on the island". This soil now produces fabulous potatoes and pork, which you may well see on the menu tonight.
