Bicycle Network: Take Action
1 NSW Transport Plan 2012
This is your opportunity to have your say to the Government about transport planning in NSW.
The State Government has a difficult task of fitting a growing population into yesterday’s roads and public transport. Their challenge is to work out where and how they can spend the limited money they have in the most effective way. We think bicycle transport can help make ends meet.
In our submission we make two key recommendations:
• Build bicycle infrastructure as a priority in what they call the ‘Global Economic Corridor’, an arc across the metropolitan area running from Macquarie Park in the north through the CBD to Sydney Airport.
• Urgently develop local bicycle access to rail stations and public transport nodes in the Greater Sydney area.
We make a number of other recommendations for metropolitan centres such as Parramatta and regional centres such as Newcastle. We also comment on a number of other issues that will need to be addressed in order for bicycle transport to reach its potential in NSW.
We encourage you to send in a submission. You might like to comment directly on the Draft NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan or support what we have said.
We can assure you that within Government and the bureaucracy there is support for bicycle transportation. Our collective role is to help strengthen and guide these good intentions. For that reason we ask you to make your input positive and constructive.
