Nicholson/Lennox St - Clifton Hill to East Richmond Station
A popular section of the Punt Rd Alternative Route linking Clifton Hill to the Main Yarra Trail and beyond, Nicholson and Lennox St acts as an important North-South route for riders bypassing the inner city area or traversing to other routes such as Johnston, Langridge, Albert, Bridge, Swan St and the Main Yarra Trail
More space for more bikes in Abbotsford
21 February 2011. An increasingly popular north-south route along Nicholson Street, Abbotsford has benefited from a re-allocation of road space towards a better quality bike lane.
Yarra City Council has narrowed the traffic lane and through the installation of a chevron buffer, has provided riders with an effectively wider and better protected bike lane.
(Note the new alignment in the image below, where the pervious bike lane can still be made out.)
Not just bikes are benefiting: all road users will gain additional safety from the calming vehicle speeds due to the narrowed vehicle lanes.
These changes are part of a series of improvements to a route that has become a viable alternative to Punt Road, with Nicholson and Lennox Streets acting as an important North-South route for riders bypassing the inner city area or traversing to other routes such as Johnston, Langridge, Albert, Bridge, Swan Streets and the Main Yarra Trail.
There is more information about this corridor here.
