North: Wingrove, South Crescent and Westgarth route
This route is a popular route for riders in the inner north east and beyond heading toward the inner Melbourne area.
Election opportunity for candidates to show support
15 August 2012 Bicycle Network Victoria has identified this project as a local council priority for the 2012 Local Government election. Candidates should be ready to support the development and full or partial funding of this project in conjunction with State Government and can tell riders in their Council area their position by posting their candidates' statement at VoteBike.
Key hurdles need to addressed
September 2010 This route has been identified by the VicRoads Principle Bicycle Network review as a priority route.
The map below indicates the key barriers to riders travelling toward the inner areas as they attempt to navigate their way through the High St/St Georges Rd gateway to the network choices beyond.
The crossings of Grange Road, Station Streets and Victoria Streets are a challenge to riders. They would benefit from Napier St style signals advantaging riders and pedestrians.
Westgarth Street and Merri Parade are a major barrier to riders as the High Street intersection is a gap in the network and represents a poor level of service.
