Albanese funds $560,000 Gippsland bikes
29 April 2010. The Federal Government continues to recognize the importance of building bicycle facilities in regional areas, by funding a range of trail and pathway projects in the Gippsland & Bass Coast regions.
Minister for Transport, the Hon. Anthony Albanese unveiled grants under the Community Infrastructure fund for the following projects:
- Construction of a new section and upgrade of existing Two Towns Trail in Drouin: $124,000 and $37,000
- Construction of shared pathways in Bass Coast Shire:
o $108,642 for Newhaven shared pathway
o $60,270 for Cowes shared pathway
o $50,270 for Wonthaggi shared pathway
o $60,000 for Inverloch shared pathway - Extension of the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail
o $120,000 to connect Maffra township to current Trail terminus
The expanding number of pathways and trails will make these regions even more amenable to bike tourism, and provide safe and accessible routes for local residents to use for recreation and transport.
Minister Albanese is to be congratulated for his continuing commitment to regional bicycle infrastructure. Write him here to say thanks.
