Stimulus Funding: Victoria

The Federal Government is rolling out its $40 million bikes stimulus package

27 projects feature on Fed bike stimulus

5 November 2009. Most parts of the State will benefit from a $5.7 million Federal Government injection into bike infrastructure projects.

With contributions from local government the total spend will exceed $11 million.

Some $4.4 million in Melbourne of the funds will come to Melbourne. Additional projects have been announced for regional Victoria.

The investment is part of a $40 million job stimulus package for bike routes.

The announcements include 19 bike path projects across Melbourne, from Sunbury to Lilydale and from Bentleigh to Thomastown.

The upgrade of the Yarra Trail in Richmond is a highlight, while the City of Melbourne gets finding for new bike lanes and bike parking.

There is funding for the shared path from Natimuk to Mount Arapiles while there is funding towards the linking of Moe, Traralgon, Morewell and Churchill.

Not all of the projects are of vital importance: the short time frame for applications filtered out more complex projects.

Some on the list were already underway or nearly completed when the funding was announced.
