Stimulus Funding: ACT

The Federal Government is rolling out its $40M National Bike Paths Projects fund

$1.2M cash for Canberra paths

21 October 2009. The Federal and ACT Governments will provide a $1.2M combined economic stimulus package for cycleways in Canberra.

The Rudd Labor Government will provide more than $545,000, while the ACT Government will contribute $660,000 for bike paths around Lake Ginninderra, Cotter Road, Bowen Place, Chifley and Pearce.

Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport said that the project would construct an on-road cycle lane on Ginninderra Drive between Coulter Drive and Diddams Close.

"This on-road cycle lane on Ginninderra Drive will provide a more direct route for people wishing to travel to work in the Belconnen Town Centre," he said

"A key goal under the ACT Government's 2004 Sustainable Transport Plan is to have five per cent of all journeys to work made by bike by 2011,"

The project was identified in the ACT Government's 10-year plan for cycling and walking path infrastructure.
