Having your say on the Swanston Options

The public consultation is open until 8 May. Council will consider the report in July 2009.

We need to provide the Council with feedback on two matters:

1 The option we like.

2 What we think of Option 7 the bike ban option. See the page on this.

Our view of the main options are:

Option 1: Put cars back in Swanston. Cut back the footpath, allow motor vehicles in 24/7, indent service vehicle parking, taxi parking removed. Everything else remains the same. This Option is NOT SUPPORTED as it doesn't improve the route for bike riders, pedestrians and tram passengers.

Option 2: Tweak the parking: Indent service vehicle parking, taxi parking removed. Everything else remains the same. This Option is NOT SUPPORTED as it doesn't improve the route for bike riders, pedestrians and tram passengers.

Option 3: The Sandwich. Trams run kerbside, bikes in the middle between the tracks. This Option is NOT SUPPORTED. Many unanswered questions and a high cost for no apparent benefits.

Option 4: 4x4 Put cars back in four sections, block four sections permanently to cars. Dedicated bike lane in both directions. This Option is NOT SUPPORTED as it only improves part of the route for bike riders, pedestrians and tram passengers.

Option 5: 2x 2 Put cars back in two sections, block two longer sections permanently to cars. Dedicated bike lane in both directions. This Option is NOT SUPPORTED as it only improves part of the route for bike riders, pedestrians and tram passengers.

Option 6: PREFERRED OPTION. Increased footpath width for length of street, raised tram platforms, dedicated bike lane in both directions, out of hours service and delivery vehicles only.
