Connecting Alma Street to the Albert Park Lake trail would provide a continuous route for commuters.
Alma Road bike lanes are in
4 April 2013. The City of Port Phillip has filled in the gaps in the Alma Road bike lane in East St Kilda, with new lanes now in place from Westbury to Chapel Streets.
There is now a 1.5 metre lane in both directions from St Kilda Street to Orrong Road, a priority for Bicycle Network and in the City of Port Phillip 2011 Bike Plan.
The project cost was $100k, fully funded by the City of Port Phillip.
The lanes are marked with new standard thermo plastic line marking, including large bike symbols, installation of bike boxes at signalised intersections and installation of bike lane signs.
Omni-grip textured pavement markings have been applied within the pedestrian median.
The lanes disappear for 30 metres on the approaches to Chapel Street. Why this is has not been explained.
