Bicycle Network: Take Action
LAAP funding

The Department of Infrastructure has a new funding pool, the Local Area Access Program (LAAP) to stimulate councils to focus on infrastructure barriers that are often 'lost inside the bigger grid'. For a rider the Principle Bicycle Network and the Metropolitan Trail Network may not always service their need to get to key activity centres.
Thinking locally
May 07 The LAAP program has called for submissions to the next round of funding grants.
At the launch Minister Pallas spoke of how excited he was that Cycling and Walking was a part of his portfolio. We look forward to seeing which bike riding projects receive grants.
Oct 06 Bicycle Network Victoria has been asked by many councils for support or advice on what we are hearing from our direct conversations with DoI management and what we think are worthy projects to apply for. We believe the following project types would be worthy candidates for LAAP funding:
- Bike parking cages at railway stations (see our bike cage initiative)
- Bike parking cages at other activity centres such as shopping centres, recreational centres, schools, or other locations
- Paths that complete that last small, and often forgotten, approach to these destinations
- Permeable through ways that allow riders and walkers to get to or through a particular area
