49km of well surfaced trail makes for very pleasant cycling in south Gippsland.

Explore serene dairy country and native forests on one of Victoria’s favourite rail trails.

Following the historical South Gippsland railway line from Leongatha through to Foster, the Great Southern Rail Trail’s ultimate offering is stunning views of Wilson’s Promontory and Corner Inlet.

The surface is hard-packed gravel that is suitable for ordinary bikes.

Route descriptions

The Great Southern Rail Trail has been mapped as one of the Bike riding in Victoria map series.

Each route is described in detail including cafes, transport options to and from the ride, accommodation options and places of interest.

Cartography

The maps are drawn by the award winning cartographic team at Explore Australia publishing and are richly detailed but easy-to-read.
