Lights - the penalties
The rules are the same across Australia but the penalties vary. The penalities should be higher than the cost of a set of lights.
The penalty for riding at night without lights as of April 2010
Tasmania |
$80 for each offence = $160 for a rider with no front or rear light |
Victoria

$146 ( 1.25 penalty units).
Note: In Victoria a motorist driving at night without lights is liable for a fine of $155 (1.35 penalty units). |

$56 for each offence = $112 for a rider with no front or rear light |
South Australia |
$56 for each offence. $112 for a rider with no front or rear light. |
