A fun family outing which includes a visit to a viewing platform overlooking one of Victoria's power stations to see where our electricity comes from.

The rail trail is an easy ride over a bridge and through cuttings to a picnic and BBQ area at Yallourn Energy.

Don't forget to pack some sausages for a BBQ lunch before returning to Moe.

Fast facts

Distance from Melbourne: 130km along the Princes Fwy

Starting point: Moe township or Yallourn Energy picnic area

Trail length: 8km one way

Surface: Hard packed dirt and gravel suitable for mountain bikes and wider tyre hybrids.

Trail description

The trail starts in Moe off Bennett St, just off the Moe-Glengarry Rd at a small car park accessed down a gravel laneway (but it is a bit difficult to find). Alternatively, park at Moe Botanic Gardens which has toilets and picnic facilities and pick up the trail where it crosses the bridge over Narracan Creek.

The trail runs through several cuttings and is lined with a variety of trees. Near the end at Yallourn Power station, the trail passes under a road bridge and winds up to a picnic and BBQ area overlooking the power station.

Optional side trips include viewing the Latrobe River from one of the tracks near the end of the trail, or a ride along Sullivan Track to Lake Narracan.
