Pollution filter face masks
For those worried about inhaling particulate matter on their ride to work a facial mask that filters out pollution may be desirable.
Pollution filter face masks may be especially useful for asthmatics or others with respiratory problems.
How they work
The masks fit over the nose and mouth and have disposable filters that remove most of the fine particulate matter. One quality brand is RESPRO.
Bicycle Network Victoria Members who use them have said they work well, especially judging by the colour of the filter after a week of use. It fits around the nose and mouth so all air is filtered.
The replaceable filters need to be changed every once in a while (1 to 2 months or so, or 40-50 hours of riding), so add this onto the costs of buying and using one.
The retail cost of a mask is about $70-80. Filters are about $16 each.
