Bicycle Network: Where to Ride
Australia & NZ - Cycle touring
Bicycle Network Victoria has a number of brochures and maps we can post to you. We also have books for sale to help get you touring around Australia and New Zealand. Below is a list of some of the more popular routes.
The Great Ocean Road
This is perhaps Victoria's most popular cycling route. Lonely Planet's Cycling Australia (see details below) has a route description. As does Paul Elwood's Around Australia by Bicycle: The Complete Guide (see details below).
The Nullarbor
A classic ride across the stark, treeless plain between Perth and Adelaide. Long distances between roadhouses (up to 200km) make this a challenging journey. The South Australian Travel Centre has a free brochure, 'The Nullarbor - Australia's Great Road Journey', which has a decent map and lists facilities along the way. Phone 1300 366 770.
Paul Salter has written a guide to cycling across the Nullarbor: Bike Australia - Cycling Australia from Perth to Sydney.
Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane by bike
The Lonely Planet Guide to Australia describes a route along Australia's East Coast. The Audax website also describes an inland route between Melbourne and Sydney that they use for Audax rides. See link (right).
