Cairns Regional Council RiderView
Cairns gains insights from riders!
May 2012. Thank you to all who completed the RiderView Survey.
A RiderView report has been provided to Cairns Regional Council. Respondents identified various barriers and opportunities in the municipal riding environment:
Barriers to riding a bike for short trips included a lack of on-road lanes to riding to destinations and a lack of secure bike parking at destinations. Other issues include conflict with other road users, surface condition (e.g. glass on road), environmental conditions (lighting, weather etc.) and a lack of end-of-trip facilities.
Opportunities to increase the likelihood of riding for short trips include investment in on-road bike lanes and off-road shared paths, as well as programs that reward people for not driving (to be determined).
Recommendations for further investigation have been provided to Cairns Regional Council for consideration.
