New loop counters coming

The Government continues to invest in bike counting systems.

 Bike counting gets boost.

8 November 2010. The State Government will significantly boost the number of electronic bicycle counters in order to better measure the growth of riding.

The Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas said VicRoads would install another five counters to capture rider numbers over summer and autumn.

VicRoads already has 21 of the automated counters, with others being installed on the Yarra Trail this month.

The additional five counting systems, which cost a total of $50,000 will be installed at various locations selected by VicRoads in conjunction with Bicycle Network Victoria.

Mr Pallas said: "These counters will assist in the development of a wider bicycle monitoring framework currently being developed in line with the Principal Bicycle Network Review, scheduled for April 2011."

They will be instaled soon
