Hot-shot commuters in Moonee Valley
8 March 2011. The findings from the City of Moonee Valley BikeScope survey indicate that the majority of riders fall into the High Intensity - Transport category. The table below indicates this as 474 respondents indicating this as 'most of my riding'.
| Options | Most of My Riding | Some of My Riding | My Riding Occassionally | I don't do this riding at all | Response Count | Average Rating |
| High Intensity - Recreation | 141 | 198 | 152 | 361 | 852 | 2.86 |
| Low Intensity - Transport | 103 | 225 | 251 | 203 | 782 | 2.71 |
| Low Intensity - Recreation | 169 | 294 | 284 | 83 | 830 | 2.34 |
| High Intensity - Transport | 474 | 195 | 91 | 140 | 900 | 1.89 |
The table above shows that the High Intensity Recreation category recorded the highest average rating, which is 2.86. However, analysing the findings further under ‘the most of my riding’ category, High Intensity Transport recorded the highest number of responses (474 responses).
This finding shows that the majority of the respondents to the survey use Moonee Valley for commuting purposes.
The average rating number represents the number of responses closest to the category respondents identified as ‘Most of my riding,’ ie the higher rating, the closer the ‘Most of my riding’ category.
| Options (Most of my Riding Only) | Moonee Valley | Inner Council 1 | Inner Council 2 |
| High Intensity Recreation | 17% | 16% | 32% |
| Low Intensity Transport | 13% | 14% | 15% |
| Low Intensity Recreation | 20% | 11% | 17% |
| High Intensity Transport | 53% | 53% | 43% |
The table above indicates that significant comparisons exist within Bicycle Network Victoria’s Four Types of Riders, with High Intensity Transport among the most popular form of riding across the three Local Government Areas (LGAs). This shows that Moonee Valley is on par in comparison with Inner Council 1 at 53% and reasonably higher than Inner Council 2 at 43%.
The findings highlights that there are opportunities to develop the network in the Low Intensity Recreation and Transport as well High Intensity Recreation categories.
Other findings found that;
