February 2004. In December 2001 the state government allocated $600,000 from the Community Support Fund for construction work on the Stony Creek to Foster section of the Great Southern Rail Trail.
The work on this 28km section is now complete and offersspectacular ocean views of Corner Inlet and Wilsons Promontory, passing through forests, bushland and farmland. The section between Koonwarra and Meeniyan remains closed due to several unsafe trestle bridges.
A bypass using the old highway will be utilised once the new highway is built. Eric Cumming, Chairman of the Great Southern Rail Trail Committee, welcomes new members to help with working bees or report on problems on the trail.
