Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail

Mar 04. The Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail Restoration Project was officially opened by the Hon. John Brumby on Friday 12 March at Nimmons Bridge.

Golden Plains Shire Council upgraded the timber trestlebridge last year, one of the largest of it's kind in Victoria. The bridge crosses the Woady Yaloak River at Newtown, approximately 22kms along the rail trail from the Avenue of Honour in Ballarat. Handrails have been installed for safety and picnic facilities have been placed nearby.

Children from Woady Yalloak Primary School were the first to ride over the bridge once the ribbon was cut.

Golden Plains Shire has also upgraded the trail surface between Smythesdale and Pittong and installed information shelters along the trail. The council also needs to improve the legibility of the trail at Smythesdale which currently appears to stop at the recreation ground.

For a description of the rail trail see Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail
