Bicycle Expenditure Index (BiXE) 2012

15 November 2012. The City of Melton’s BiXE rating for 2012 is $4.47. This is below the Outer Zone council average for 2012, which is $5.65. This is based upon council spending of $505,000 and population of 112,981.

Relevant bicycle related investment for the 2012/2013 financial year includes but is not necessarily limited to expenditure upon the following projects/programs:
• Federation Drive shared path
• Navan Park shared path
• Vavan Park bridge
• Shared Path way finding signage
• High Street trail bridge
• Tenterfield Drive shared path

Additional spending sourced from external grants and funds may apply – particularly given that Melton is a designated growth area – but that is outside the scope of BiXE reporting.

The Shire of Melton achieved a five-year BiXE average of $5.81. This is above the Outer Zone council five-year average for 2012, which is $5.80.

Melton City Council has a BiXE 2009 of $9.24. This is the first year Melton has been included in the BiXE report and it is pleasing to see it has both exceeded the$5 per resident threshold and the average for Outer Councils.

Melton City Council has opportunities to invest in bike infrastructure such as:
• Ensuring its new growth corridor areas are linked to central Melton and the rest of the Metropolitan Trail Network.

Bicycle projects that we consider to be high priority include:
