15 November 2012. The City of Casey’s BiXE rating for 2012 is $4.65. This is below the Outer Zone council average for 2012, which is $5.65. This is based upon council spending of $1,215,000 and population of 261,198.

Relevant bicycle related investment for the 2012/2013 financial year includes but is not necessarily limited to expenditure upon the following projects/programs:
• Loxley Boulevard to Sweeney Reserve
• Caulfield Court to Ray Bastin Reserve
• Linking Paths program, which is a program that delivers shared path connections across the municipality

Additional spending sourced from external grants and funds may apply – particularly given that Casey is a designated growth area – but that is outside the scope of BiXE reporting.

Casey City Council has further opportunities to invest funds into cycling infrastructure such as:
• Linking the 3 trails – Eumemmering Creek, Dandenong Creek and the new Dandenong Bypass
• Providing more on road bike lanes on Council-maintained roads, particularly around schools.

Jun 07 After spending over $1 million on bike paths in 2006/07 the City of Casey is about to spend $1.8 million on bike paths in the coming financial year. The 2007/2008 City of Casey draft budget includes the following path initiatives:

This is great news for bike riding in Casey. The new paths will help get people riding to the shops, to the train and to school. They will also provide great places for families to ride their bikes for recreation.

City of Casey Mayor, Colin Butler said

“The City of Casey has invested $1.8 million for development of recreational paths in 2007-08 which is great news for cyclists and walkers in Casey. The new paths will facilitate travel to and from work for our adult residents as well as to local schools for students. It will also provide a safe and reliable recreational network for families, and will aid in promoting healthy recreational activities for the whole community. Our City is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia and has one of the largest percentages of people under the age of 40, therefore Council is committed to developing a large path network to meet local recreational needs. Following on from our investment in the criterium track at Casey Fields and having the Government-funded State Mountain Bike Centre located at Lysterfield Park, the City of Casey is leading the way with cycling and recreational path development.”

Jun 05 Restoration and improvement of the Warneet Pavilion will be ready for the increased tourism expected as a result of the Commonwealth Games mountain bike event at the State Mountain Park Centre, Lysterfield Lake Park ($20,000).

There is also a 'Warming up for the Games' event: a community bike ride, walk and physical activity day which is going to be held on Sunday 20 November 2005 at Lysterfield.

Bicycle Network Victoria met with Casey City Council in 2003 to discuss how the cycling network can be improved. Very little of VicRoads Principal Bicycle Network (PBN) has been installed or Parks Victoria's Metropolitan Trail Network (MTN).
