Local Government represents a large proportion of the bike world and bike-friendly Councils can play a big part in the bike network.

There is a growing interest in riding in Frankston and the peninsula generally. We believe there are a number of opportunities to increase riding in the area. The Council is showing an increased interest in developing bike riding.
Glen Eira Council
The layout and location of Glen Eira suggest that many transport trips could be done by bike. This has not been a strong emphasis of the Council in the past. There are signs that the Council wants to do more to help people ride bikes.

Historically Council has not put a lot of effort into increasing bike riding. However, there is great potential for bike riding in Stonnington. Recreation use is high - the Yarra and Gardiner's Creek form the northern boundary of the municipality. Chapel Street is a busy destination for riders and also functions as an alternative to Punt Road. There is a number of positive signs that Council support is growing.

A leading council in developing bike riding. In the 2011 census this council had one of the highest journey to work figures in Australia.They began with small and effective investments but have consistently increased their investments. Yarra is now close to the top of the BiXE ladder.
