Induction of new Board members for 2010
The Board continues to put significant effort into improving the orientation for new Board members.
The three new Board members on the 2010 Board: Jeremy Brand, Eytan Lenko and Tony Maughan have now been present at a number of meetings to help orient them to their role on the Board.
Each of the new Board members attended the Candidates Briefing in September (before the nominations closed) with other prospective Board members. This was followed by an informal gathering of successful candidates and the 2009 Board in the late afternoon before the Annual General Meeting. A formal induction meeting with presentations and a question and answer session was held following the Annual General Meeting.
New Board members have been encouraged to tour the public website and were provided with the October, November and December Board papers. They were provided with the ‘key’ to the intranet which contains a section for Board members.
Each new member was provided with a copy of Forces for Good, an in depth study of not for profits that have been successful in the United States. In the new year the new Board members will join the Board Orientation Series run by Leadership Victoria. This series prepares people to be ‘effective members of not-for-profit boards’ and explores issues that all boards face and need to consider.’
This year we have established a Buddy system for the new Board members so that they have someone to call or have coffee with and help them adjust to their new role. The candidates breifing session for 2010 will be at 6.30pm on 6 September 2010.
