We are changing our name and logo
We are changing our name
August 2011
We’re changing our name to Bicycle Network Victoria
For a number of years we have said that ‘our aim is to make significant measurable change at a societal scale - in perceptions, behaviour and bicycle infrastructure’.
We have committed to use societal measures such as the census to test the effectiveness of our work. We say ‘we will go anywhere to make these things happen’ and we do, including to New Zealand.
The national programs we now coordinate have far more impact than their state-based prototypes.
Working across the region under two names – Bicycle Victoria and the Bicycle Network has become confusing.
We have found that the 'network' concept is very powerful. It instantly says we are ready to collaborate and bring people together for a common benefit.
Therefore, we’re going to be known as the Bicycle Network and Bicycle Network Victoria.
Our centre of gravity will always be in Victoria but the new name will allow the network to grow in many places.
We are changing our logo
Our logo has a tough job. In two seconds it has to tell people who we are and what we stand for.
We thought our current wheels-and-riders logo was doing its job. But we wanted to be sure so we checked with our members and friends. 38% of our members reported that they had never seen it. Others said it looked elite and like the Olympic rings. Thank goodness we asked!
So we’ve developed an exciting new logo and it has tested very strongly with the focus groups.
It’s based on a bike chain to represent a strong network, joined and working together for the benefit of all. Importantly, the chain is responsible for moving the bike forward. The new logo instantly says what we stand for.

The Bicycle Network
The Bicycle Network is the name used by Bicycle Victoria for projects beyond Victoria Australia.
Bicycle Network projects will include:
• campaigns to increase and improve bicycle infrastructure
• behaviour change programs based on social marketing
• programs that measure the number of riders
• communication and education projects
• the provision of products, services and advice
Bicycle Victoria will be wholly responsible for some Bicycle Network projects. We will also act as the coordinator of work by others as well as in bi-lateral or multi-lateral partnerships and associations with other groups and organisations.
Where possible, and where this is effective, we will work collaboratively with and learn from organisations inside and outside the bike riding world. Other organisations are invited to join projects that are relevant and worthwhile to them.
