The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is New Zealand’s largest cycling event. The iconic Cycle Challenge includes a wide range of categories for participants of varying abilities and fitness levels including the most popular Solo 160km around Lake Taupo, road relays, mountain bike challenges, separate Men’s and Women’s races, corporate challenges, Enduro events (2, 4 and 8 laps of the lake) and the @Heart ride for kids. The scenic Cycle Challenge regularly attracts in excess of 10,000 riders and, in 2006, was admitted to the prestigious UCI Golden Bike Series, gaining recognition as being one of the world’s top six recreational rides. It also makes up one of the events in BikeNZ’s Summer Series. It is organised by the Taupo Moana Rotary Club and managed by a dedicated team of volunteers and professionals with the necessary expertise to deliver a safe and enjoyable event with all profits returning to the community. In it's 36th year, the Cycle Challenge always takes place on the last Saturday in November.
