GOULBURN RIVER HIGH COUNTRY RAIL TRAIL Ride 25km... Walk 4km... Run 10km... for the John Wallis Foundation Saturday 4 August 2012 Registration from 10.00 a.m. at Trawool Valley Resort 10.40 a.m. Introduction to the day Lunch 1.00 p.m. at Yea Railway Station Sponsored by Lay Marist Ministry & the John Wallis Foundation Father John Wallis (1910-2001) grew up in Homewood and received his primary Education at the State School. From there he went to the newly opened Sacred Heart School, Yea, for a year, before transferring to Assumption College Kilmore, where he completed his secondary education. He was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Hobart in 1932. In the course of his pastoral ministry he became aware of the needs of people beyond the pastoral care of the Church. In response to this need, in 1944 he founded the Missionary Sisters of Service in Launceston, Tasmania. Their mission is to go into the highways and byways and seek out people on the margins, isolated by reason of geography, culture or social conditions. The John Wallis Foundation continues and expands that mission. |
